This announcement comes as the war, which began with a US-Israeli attack on Iran last February 28, has extended to Iraq where strikes on facilities of armed groups loyal to Tehran continue, while attacks on American interests persist. Meanwhile, Iran is carrying out strikes against opposing Kurdish groups in the north of the country. Earlier, in mid-January of last year, Iraq announced the completion of the operation to withdraw the international coalition from Baghdad. Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani announced the 'postponement' of the end date of the international coalition's mission, led by Washington, to fight the 'Islamic State' (IS) group, which was scheduled for this September. He made the statement in an interview with an Italian newspaper published on Monday.
