Zeydan ar-Ruba'i, the former head coach of the Iraqi national football team, expressed his surprise at the low level of analysis and opinions regarding the present and future of Iraqi football. He stated that attempts to convince Iraqi football fans that what is happening currently in Iraqi football is somehow legitimate, which leads to success, are baseless.
He continued, saying: "Some are trying to convince the Iraqi sports fans, who are very informed and follow football events around the world, that a senior tournament for veterans, currently taking place in Kuwait, is more important than the European Championship in football, due to their personal gain".
