Baghdad Stadium Renamed After Late Iraqi National Team Captain

Baghdad: Zaidan Al-Rabi'i. The General Board of the Iraqi Al-Karkh Sports Club decided on Friday to change the name of the football team's main stadium. The stadium, formerly known as 'Ahmad Radhi the Magician', will now be named after the late Sharar Haydar. Sharar Haydar was the captain of the Iraqi national football team and president of the Al-Karkh Sports Club. He was the one who initiated the stadium's renaming in honor of the legendary Iraqi footballer Ahmad Radhi, who died in June 2020 from COVID-19. Thus, the club decided to pay tribute to two of its prominent figures. The decision was made after Haydar himself passed away in 2023.
