Yesterday, Sunday, the Criminal Court of Nineveh Province in Iraq issued a death sentence by hanging for the doctor (I.A.K.), convicted of killing his wife, the doctor (I.A.S.), by burning her alive in her car. This horrific crime shocked Iraqi public opinion at the end of last year.
The details of the case date back to mid-December 2025, in the "Narkal" district of Mosul, where the perpetrator began chasing his wife after she went out with their three children for dinner.
According to investigation records, the husband took advantage of the moment the victim was alone in the car, smashed the windows, poured gasoline on it, and intentionally set her body on fire, in front of their children, aged 6, 15, and 19.
Despite immediate rescue attempts, the victim suffered severe burns covering most of her body, and she passed away after a painful struggle in the hospital.
Testimonies from close relatives of the family revealed that the incident resulted from escalating family disputes that began in July 2025 after the death of the victim's mother (the perpetrator's mother-in-law).
The investigation also indicated that the victim, a 43-year-old pediatric specialist at the Ibn Sina Teaching Hospital, had filed a lawsuit shortly before the crime to divorce her husband, who works as a general surgeon.
The security forces managed to arrest the perpetrator within less than two hours of the incident, and he was brought before the court, which finally concluded the case with a death sentence by hanging.
