The Iraqi Council of Representatives elected Nizar Amidi as President of the Republic of Iraq during a session it held this Saturday to elect a new president for the country for the next four years. The session was attended by 223 deputies out of a total of 329 members of the Iraqi parliament. In the first round, 17 candidates competed for the position.
