In the framework of the Asian qualifier, the 'Eye' team suffered a new loss at the hands of the Iraqi 'Police' team, resulting in two goals without reply, in the eighth round of the qualifiers. With this defeat, the Eye team finished in the last position with only two points, after having settled for two draws and a loss in the matches they participated in.
Mahmoud Al-Mawass scored the Police team's first goal in the fifth minute of the match, with a powerful shot from inside the penalty area, after a pass from his teammate Ayoob Mouden, without any interference from the Eye players in defense. The Iraqi team added the second goal in the fourth minute of injury time, through the Brazilian player Lucas Santos, who took advantage of a corner kick and placed it in the net with his head.
The Eye's performance was quite mediocre during the match, where they did not display any organized offensive performance to demand victory. The Eye blocked a single shot on the Police team’s goal from a shot by Mohamed Awad, which was saved by the goalkeeper. In the second half, the Eye faced serious defensive problems, which caused them to miss several scoring opportunities for the Iraqi Police to increase their lead, including a clear opportunity for the attacker Mohanad Ali who collided with the post.
Thus, the Eye team’s participation in the Asian qualifiers ended this season, with a performance below the expected level and a decline in results, and the team will need to conduct a deep analysis and make fundamental corrections in order to return strong in the upcoming seasons.
