The Iraqi Football Association announced that the decision was made to appoint Australian coach Graham Arnold as the head coach of the national team. Arnold will take up the position after he completes his obligations with the current club.
This step was taken after the Iraqi national team failed its last matches in the qualification for the 2023 Asian Championship. Under the leadership of the previous coach, the team lost to Afghanistan and Montenegro. Therefore, the federation's management made a decision on the change of coach. At this moment, Graham Arnold is considered the most suitable candidate for this role.
"We are confident that Graham Arnold will bring the team the necessary stability and experience to reach a new level and achieve success on the international stage," noted a source from the federation.
