Iraq Resumes Oil Production Amid Political Changes

The movements take place in the context of resolving a long-standing conflict between the government of Baghdad and the Kurdistan Regional Government regarding oil exports and the Kurdistan region's share of the federal budget. The technical teams currently work on addressing the technical issues related to the oil transport process, aiming to resume exports as soon as possible.

In this context, the Iraqi Minister of Natural Resources stated that the government is committed to removing the obstacles facing the oil production and export process from the northern fields, and that efforts are underway to ensure the return of production to its normal levels.

At the same time, the Kurdistan Regional Government expressed its readiness for full cooperation and building with the Baghdad government, indicating that unifying efforts is the only way to overcome the discrepancies and achieve economic stability in the country.

It is noted that resuming oil production and exports from the northern fields will represent a positive step towards enhancing the Iraqi economy, which is suffering from the repercussions of falling global oil prices and the effects of the coronavirus pandemic on both the local and global levels.
