The Iraqi Council of Representatives has set Tuesday as the date for a session to elect the president. In a statement, the Council said that "Speaker of Parliament Habib al-Halabi has set Tuesday as the date to hold a session to elect the President of the Republic." The Council, in its sixth session of the first legislative year, with the participation of 226 deputies, discussed security and border challenges with neighboring countries in the presence of the Minister of Defense and security leaders. This comes as the constitutionally mandated deadline for this electoral process approaches, against a backdrop of a political scene still weighed down by disagreements, especially within the Kurdish house.
