Traders and border officials stated that this crossing is one of the main routes for importing vegetables and other foodstuffs from Iran to Iraq, warning that any prolonged disruption to traffic could quickly affect local market supplies. Security sources told Reuters on Saturday that Iraq had closed the southern Shalamcha border crossing with Iran following airstrikes on the Iranian side that resulted in the death of an Iraqi citizen. Other security and energy sector sources reported that two drones targeted the northern Rumaila oilfield on Saturday, injuring three Iraqi workers. Sources indicated that at least five Iraqis were seriously injured.
