Iraqi Leaders Call for Speedy Government Formation

Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid and Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, as well as Speaker of Parliament Mahmoud al-Mashhadani, called on Saturday for national forces to form a genuine partnership to expedite the formation of the government. Rashid, during a memorial service organized by the National Wisdom Trend in Baghdad on the 20th anniversary of the assassination of Ayatollah Mohammed Baqir al-Hakim in 2003, urged for 'the formation of a government that represents all Iraqis and elevates the building of the Iraqi state.' Meanwhile, the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) announced on Saturday the signing of documents to hand over its main compound in Baghdad to the government before the mission's mandate expires on December 31.
